Damir Buljubašić - Bula

It's been always about the northern sky!

Still don't know why but there is something out there that has attracted me all my life. All the books I’ve read, movies I’ve watched, stories I’ve heard about Scandinavians, their history, magical nature, people, etc. Fascinating!

And then I got a job in Finland! To work and live under the northern sky? Yess!

My dreams came true (hvala Sandi).

There was a time when I felt I needed a radical change in my life. So I decided to leave my hometown and try something completely new. And destiny brought me to the mighty Finland.

I got a job at a company dealing with service and assembly of shot blasting and peening machines. I was lucky because I had to travel all around Finland to do all the repairs. What a better way to know the country and the people!

The only place I didn't experience in Finland is Lapland but I know that I have to and I will. So I have seen a lot of beautiful places, met a lot of interesting people and I have fallen in love with a very special person who showed me and taught me what Suomi is all about (kiitos mrs.K).

So what to say about Suomi? After being in Finland for a couple of months director Mr. Saarinen asked me how I felt there and I had only one answer - I FEEL FREE!

Kiitos Suomi opened my eyes.

Like every story this one had an end too. So after two unforgettable years I was back home. So what's next? I promised myself regardless what happens I will do everything to stay in contact with Finland in whatever way possible. When time was passing by, I was thinking what to do with my life, what makes me happy, etc. Then I had a beer with my girlfriend and boommm!

Now it's my time to proudly present my beautiful country to the Suomi people. To give them back all the love, politeness and good black humour that I got from them. What a better way to stay in contact. Seeing a lot of Finland and knowing Slovenia I'm damn sure that Suomi people will like it very much. Slovenia is a small country but very dynamic, so you never get bored of it.

And we play hockey, too ;)

I was in my early twenties when I didn't really know what to do in my life. I was trying to do something with computers, I even enrolled in university for computer science, but somehow it didn't fulfill me.

One day I was hanging out with a friend who was a tour guide, I said to him »I should work with you in tourism«. I was joking, but you know what they say, there is a grain of truth in every joke. He said they were looking for new coworkers and that I should come for an interview. So I did and I got the job.

It was one of the most important things I did in my life because I totally fell in love with this job. As a tour guide I was taking people around Europe (Greece, France, Czech Republic, Serbia, Croatia, Italy, etc). Seeing all those beautiful countries made me realize something. The beauty from those countries was something I already saw, namely in my country. France has the Alps, so do we, Croatia has the sea, so do we, Greece, Czech Republic, Serbia, Italy have long history, great food, etc, and so do we. So I decided to show Slovenia to the world instead of showing the world to Slovenian people.

One day, after a long time, I met my friend Damir. We went for a drink. At that time Damir was living and working in Finland for two years. He was telling me stories about life in Finland with such a passion that it really made you want to visit Finland. He also told me that he would like to show his home country to Finnish people. At that point I realized we have common interest. Damir wants to show Slovenia to Finnish people and I want to show Slovenia to the world. We decided to combine his love for Finland and my love for tourism.

Of course, first we had to visit Finland. It was exactly what he told me it would be. I loved it every second and what I felt after coming home from Finland is what I want Finnish people to feel when they get home from visiting Slovenia. I know we can make them feel the way I did.
